Walgreen Co. (WAG) Profit Rises
Walgreen Co. said Monday that its second-quarter earnings climbed 24.5 percent as sales increased on the strength of a robust retail prescription business.
The nation's biggest drugstore chain by revenue earned $651ред9 million, or 65 cents per share, for the three months ended Feb. 28, up from $523.5 million, or 51 cents per share, in the year-ago period.
Revenue grew 14.6 percent to $13.93 billion from $12.16 billion last year, beating Wall Street expectations.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected net income of 61 cents on revenue of $13.89 billion.
