Wall Street Heads for Lower Opening
U.S. stocks headed for a moderately lower opening Wednesday after concerns about faltering subprime mortgage lenders sparked a broad selloff in stocks Tuesday.
While futures moved lower Wednesday, they didn't indicate the free fall would continue, at least at the opening of trading, despite declines of more than 1 percent in major stock indexes in Europe and Asia.
Dow Jones industrials futures expiring in June fell 29 points, or 0.24 percent, to 12,160. Standard & Poor's 500 index futures declined 2.50, or 0.18 percent, to 1,389.40, while Nasdaq 100 index futures fell 3.00, or 0.17 percent, to 1,741.25.
