Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) Profit Plummets

Sprint Nextel Corp.'s quarterly profit plummeted as the nation's third-largest wireless provider said on Thursday it lost customers and revenue from its wireless business.
For the third quarter ending September 30, the Reston, Va.-based company, with operational headquarters in Overland Park, Kan., said it earned $64 million, or 2 cents per share, compared with earning $279 million, or 9 cents per share, during the same period a year ago.
Not including one-time expenses, the company said it earned 23 cents per share, a penny higher than the expectations of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial.
Revenue during the quarter declined 4.2 percent to $10 billion, missing analysts' predictions of $10.45 billion.
