Jim Cramer's Stop Trading May 14h

Buy Caterpillar (CAT), Jim Cramer said on CNBC's "Stop Trading!" segment Wednesday.
On news of an earthquake that has cost a great deal of damage and as many as 15,000 lives, Cramer spoke of the "rebuild in China," which he said was an equivalent of Hurricane Katrina in terms of infrastructure buildout. He pointed viewers to Caterpillar and Terex (TRX) as plays on the news. He also recommended Cummins (CMI). "They're all headed up ... because of the rebuild," he said.
Cramer said today's rally has a lot to do with bullish action from mortgage insurer Freddie Mac (FRE). "They have gotten rid of the systemic risk," he said. He called Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae (FNM) the "last of the black holes" for the financial crunch.
Cramer said Freddie is getting a lot of business, which he thinks may actually offset the company's losses. He said bears don't believe that's the case, but he pointed out that Freddie is a well-run company. Fannie is not as good, he said.
In the consumer discretionary space, Cramer said he had thought "the buyers would just call it quits" after the government's stimulus checks came in. He revised his forecast, saying maybe earnings from Kohl's (KSS) tomorrow will be the time to sell.
He expressed his surprise at the continued rise of some retailers. "Certainly we know that Costco (COST) is better than we thought. ... TJX (TJX) was a little disappointing, and look -- it goes up." He pointed out that Wal-Mart (WMT) stock has traded back to where it was before reporting earnings.
"A lot of people feel that the worst is over," Cramer said. He pointed out that the Fed called victory when inflation numbers came in better than expected.
Cramer also said that the year of wind power may arrive this year, not next year as he had previously predicted. He pointed out bullish action in Fluor (FLR) and First Solar (FSLR) as evidence of alternative energy stories.
He also said that Research In Motion (RIMM), Apple (AAPL) and MasterCard (MA) are offering leadership in the economy.
On the housing crisis, Cramer said that Toll Brothers (TOL) CEO Bob Toll was "negative negative negative" when the two spoke on last night's "Mad Money" TV show. He predicted that the housing problem in Florida would be much better in 18 months.

Crocs (NasdaqGS:CROX) ended Thursday up more than 14% after the company announced a forecast for 2008 that was better than expectations. The company's first quarter profits of $0.09 per share, excluding some items, were in line with analyst estimates. The Short Term PowerRating for CROX is 5.
Better than expected same store sales helped boost shares of Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) though Costco (NasdaqGS:COST), which also reported strong sales, was lower on the day. The Short Term PowerRating for WMT is 6 and the Short Term PowerRating for COST is 5.
Defense contractor Alliant Techsystems (NYSE:ATK) announced fourth quarter earnings that were up by nearly 20% to $1.83 per share, beating estimates. The Short Term PowerRating for ATK is 5.
Activision (NasdaqGS:ATVI) reported quarterly earnings of $0.17 per share, more than triple analyst estimates. The Short Term PowerRating for ATVI is 5.
Questions by the Justice Department about the company's handling of a study involving its cholesterol drug Vytorin did not stop shares of Schering Plough (NYSE:SGP) from gaining nearly 3% on the day. The Short Term PowerRating for SGP is 5.
Shares of Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) slid more than 3% on news that the company has spent $2.1 billion for a stake in British consumer electronics retailer, Carphone Warehouse. The Short Term PowerRating for BBY is 4.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Dec. 7th

The Fuel is Greener: Deere (DE), Monsanto (MON), Bunge (BG), Mosaic (MOS), Agrium (AGU), Potash (POT)
When looking at the agriculture bull market, Cramer urged investors to think energy and not food. As oil prices rise, the pressure to develop alternative fuels from soybeans and corn will increase. This has been good news for farming stocks such as Deere, Bunge and Monsanto and especially fertilizer companies, Agrium, Potash and Mosaic. "All of these gains have been driven by demand," Cramer said and sees years of upside in this sector. However, since many agriculture stocks have already increased substantially, Cramer would wait for a decline before buying many of them.
Still Time for NYSE Euronext (NYX)
While NYX has been the worst performing stock Cramer has seen in 26 years in the business, he would stay with it. His thesis for owning the stock is unchanged and the only reason NYX went down is because "it was just going down…. Even though you hate owning it, nothing fundamental has changed for the company underneath it." In fact, NYX keeps beating estimates, its fundamentals are better than they were at the beginning of the year, and Cramer thinks this bear raid on NYX can't last forever.
Sitting on the Fed Fence: Kroger (KR), Costco (COST)
Cramer advised a wait and see strategy concerning the Fed meeting on Tuesday. A quarter point cut in rates could lead to recession fears and may bring some stocks down. On the other hand, a half a point cut could be a buying opportunity for banks tech and industrials. If it weren’t for the meeting, Cramer would suggest buying Costco and Kroger ahead of their earnings reports, but now he recommends waiting before making a move.
Meet the Mutual Fund Manager: Ron Muhlenkamp of Muhlenkamp (MUHLX) with stocks: Altria (MO), Devon Energy (DVN), Cemex (CX)
Cramer said investing in a mutual fund is really an investment in the fund’s manager, and invited Ron Muhlenkamp to discuss his strategy of finding good companies at low prices, particularly names others don’t recognize yet or like. He discussed MO, one of the fund’s holdings and said there is room to grow for DVN and CX.

CNBC's Fast Money Recap Nov. 12th

Dennis Gartman, author of The Gartman Letter, joined the show to discuss his take on the dollar, which he predicted last Friday was due for a bounce. The dollar had its biggest one day reversal in a year on Monday. He also noted that in the last 4 days the U.S. dollar had the biggest rally versus the Canadian dollar that he has seen in his life. He also wouldn't be surprised to see gold fall another $40. Also, Gartman is looking for oil to fall $10-$15 before Thanksgiving.
Merrill Lynch economist David Rosenberg said on Monday that the last time he's seen a drop in consumer confidence to this degree during the Holiday season; the economy was in a recession. Macke thinks the Tuesday earnings reports from Home Depot (HD) and Wal-Mart (WMT) will be horrific. The only retailer he expects a good earnings report from is Kohl's (KSS) and his wild card is Macy's (M). He would get long Costco (COST) and Target (TGT). Adami thinks a trade is setting up for Coldwater Creek (CWTR), which he mentions has a very high short interest.
E*Trade (ETFC) lost 60% of its value Monday on concerns over the companies loan portfolio. Finerman thinks the most clear trade is to be long TD Ameritrade Holding (AMTD). Finerman sees opportunity for TD Ameritrade to steal E*Trade clients with all the problems they're having. She also likes Charles Schwab (SCHW).
IBM (IBM) bought Cognos (COGN) for $5 billion and Fortune Brands (FO) sold its wine business to Constellation Brands (STZ) for $885 million. Adami declares United States Steel (X) will be the next company to be taken over.
Word on the Street
Technology stocks continued to slide Monday with leaders like Google (GOOG) dropping 5%, Apple (AAPL) dropping 7% and Research In Motion (RIMM) dropping 9%. Adami likes Hewlett Packard (HPQ) ahead of next Monday's earnings report.
Rio Tinto (RTP) hits a record high after BHP Billiton (BHP) laid out the details for its $140 billion all-share offer.
Adami says the big pharmaceutical story is not fiction and Merck (MRK) is for real. He also loves defense play Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). Macke agrees with Adami and that right now is a good time to be long Merck, Procter & Gamble (PG), Pfizer (PFE) and Church & Dwight (CHD) for a defensive portfolio. Najarian wants to keep an eye on Eli Lilly (LLY).
Pops & Drops
Pops - Cisco Systems (CSCO) traded up 2% on Monday as the market declined.
Mattel (MAT) traded up 4% off a JPMorgan upgrade.
Starwood (HOT) traded up 2%
Washington Mutual (WM) traded up 1% as the financial stocks mounted a rally on Monday.
American Airlines (AMR), US Airways (LCC) and Delta (DAL) all traded up more than 5% as oil prices declined.
Starbucks (SBUX) traded up 3%.
Drops - Freeport McMoRan (FCX) fell 10% as commodity stocks were hit off the dollar rally.
Tyson Foods (TSN) fell 3% after cutting its 2008 forecast.
Sotheby's (BID) fell 2%.
Mosaic (MOS) fell 14% off the dollar rally.
Final Trade
Macke likes defensive play Procter & Gamble (PG).
Adami recommends Cisco Systems (CSCO).
Finerman and Najarian both picked TD Ameritrade Holding (AMTD).

CNBC's Fast Money Recap Nov. 2nd

On Friday the Fast Money crew speculated on the news about Citigroup (C). Macke thinks the banks are still a sell here unless you're the fastest of traders. Finerman went long Citigroup through options on Friday and she sees a bounce if CEO Chuck Prince leaves. Macke agrees that it does look like a near term reversal to the upside could be in store for Citigroup. Tim Seymour thinks the downside for the financials might be a bit over done and he bought Merrill Lynch (MER) on Friday.
Famous Legg Mason money manager, Bill Miller, likes financials and consumer names, proposing that the global plays might be over. He predicts that new leadership in the markets will come from US, large-cap, dollar-based stocks. Seymour disagrees and thinks that consumer names will do nothing over the next year. Macke thinks Miller's statement is reckless.
Cisco Systems (CSCO) is set to report earnings on Wednesday. Oppenheimer Chief Market technician Carter Worth joined the show to discuss Cisco Systems. In Worth's opinion, CSCO has relative strength and during market sell-offs investors haven't been selling the shares. Adami notes that fundamentally CSCO is doing well. Seymour contends CSCO is a bell-weather for technology and the company is finding ways to grow outside of the U.S. Macke thinks CSCO is just getting started and any pullback in the name is a chance to buy it. In the technology sector Macke wants a dip on Microsoft (MSFT) so he can get in. Adami favors Western Digital.
Retail Shopping
Most major retailers are set to report same-store sales for October on Wednesday Nov. 7th and Thursday Nov. 8th. Costco (COST) and Macy's (M) are Macke's favorite plays here. Finerman is positive on the retailers, but she is nervous about the consumer and she sold her Target (TGT).
Insurance: A shareholder group including Maurice Greenberg is requesting that American International Group (AIG) look at strategic alternatives. The stock is trading up 3% after hours on the news. Greenberg, who use to run AIG, is currently the largest shareholder and controls $3 billion in the stock. Charlie Gasparino's sources say that Greenberg wants to get rid of the current mangers and board of directors. Macke would be a buyer of AIG off this news.
OIL: Oil hits another record high to close at $95.93. Finerman favors Flowserve (FLS) for a global play. She also mentioned that FLS is her biggest position, although she did trim some on Friday. Adami tells investors Exxon Mobil (XOM) still has a rich valuation and if you want to play the oil space look at Chevron (CVX).
Seymour recommends investors look at emerging markets like Brazil, Russia and China. Brazilian banks Banco Itau Holding Financeira S.A. (ITU) and Banco Bradesco S.A. (BBD) are his plays. In Eastern Europe, he likes cellular plays Mobile TeleSystems (MBT) and Vimpel-Communications (VIP).
Pops & Drops
Pops - IAC Interactive Corp (IACI) traded up 9% after beating earnings.
USEC (USU) traded up 12% on a strong profits report.
Potash (POT) traded up 4% after Russian competitor Silvinit had a major flood causing tight world supplies to tighten further.
Baidu.com (BIDU) popped 16% after profits doubled. Macke declares BIDU is the Google of China.
Drops - Washington Mutual (WM) fell 17% after New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo sued WM alleging it colluded with a real estate appraisal firm to inflate the value of homes to help ensure that loans went through.
Yahoo! (YHOO) fell 8% for the week.
Target (TGT) fell 6% following the downward trend in the market.
Titanium Metals (TIE) fell 11% after missing profit forecasts.
Quicker than the Ticker
Back on October 8th, Seymour suggested buying CTC Media (CTCM) and Central European Media Entertainment (CETV). Seymour got it right and shares of CTC Media went up 7% and CETV surged 20% since his recommendation.
On October 17th Adami told investors to buy MasterCard (MA). The stock has advanced 17% since he recommended it.
October 29th Finerman advised shorting GPS play Garmin (GRMN). GRMN declined 20% since her call.
It was October 31st when Macke recommended investors to short Citigroup (C). Macke was right and two days later Citigroup fell 9%.
Misfires
Earlier this week on Tuesday, Adami recommended buying Las Vegas Sands (LVS). He missed the trade and LVS plunged 19% since his call. For now he favors Boyd Gaming (BYD).
Last Friday Finerman recommended shorting oil. Since her call oil has climbed 6% higher. Finerman would get out of the short oil trade because it didn't work.
A week ago Macke told investors to buy Procter and Gamble (PG). Procter has fallen 3% since he picked it, but Macke says the earnings report wasn't that bad and maintains its going to work in the long-term.
On October 4th Seymour favored investment bank Merrill Lynch (MER) on valuation. Seymour was way off and Merrill fell 19%.
Final Trade
After a rollercoaster week, the team gives their best picks. Although, not necessarily for stocks.
Macke picks the Indianapolis Colts over the New England Patriots. Finerman went with the New England Patriots.
Adami places his bet on Intel (INTC).
Seymour chooses Immersion (IMMR).

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading Oct. 10th

Buy Costco (COST), Jim Cramer said Wednesday on CNBC's Stop Trading! segment.
Cramer said the warehouse retailer is uniquely attractive to shoppers because it's an ever-changing experience. "They have an exciting thing," he said. "They made it so you can't regard it as a Wal-Mart (WMT) or a Target (TGT )."
Cramer likes Gap (GPS) because of the incentives set up for new management.
Cramer still likes refiners Valero (VLO), Chevron (CVX) and Conoco (COP) despite recent warnings by Valero and Chevron, because he says recent weeks have seen refining margins "explode."

Jim Cramer's Stop Trading Sept. 5th

Costco (COST): Cramer says every Costco miss “has been a great opportunity” and the same holds true for Wednesday’s 4% drop after the company reported weak same-store sales. He says Costco is a master merchandiser and would buy it while it is cheap. Starbucks (SBUX): On the suggestion lower-end customers are shunning Starbucks, Cramer is skeptical and doesn’t think falling house prices affect the decision to buy a cup of coffee, even if it does cost “$17 or something.”
Coach (COH): Cramer thinks the selloff in Coach is “overdone.”
Google (GOOG) and Apple (APPL): Cramer remains bullish on Google and says wireless strategies are “the elephant in the room.”

Stock Market Wrapup Sept. 5th

Stocks suffered large losses across the board, ending a two day rally in the stock market as credit fears and poor housing data contributed to a broad sell-off. At the close, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 lost a little more than 1% on the session, while the Nasdaq gave up -0.92%. Crude oil was up yet again, rising 65 cents to $75.73 a barrel.
The Fed released the much anticipated Beige Book today which stated that economic activity continued to expand in most of the nation's twelve districts at a modest pace in the month of August. However, the pace of growth slowed in some notable regions. The report also noted that much of the turmoil in the credit markets appears to be contained.
On the housing front, the National Association of Realtors announced today that pending home sales dropped -12.2% in July, much worse than economists' estimates of a decline of -2.2%. In related news, a private report showed that investors bought the fewest commercial properties in more than a year. Additionally, apartment building acquisitions fell by -50% from June levels.
The London Interbank offered rate or LIBOR, which is the rate banks charge each other in dollar terms for three months, rose for the 10th straight day on concerns that losses on securities linked to U.S. subprime mortgage problems will increase. LIBOR rates increased to 5.72%, the highest level since early 2001.
In corporate news, several big box retailers came out with August same-store sales. Among them, Costco (Nasdaq: COST - News) reported same-store sales growth of 2%, well below the 5.6% that analysts had expected. Total sales in the month were $4.84 million, up from $4.56 billion last year. The company said the poor results were the result of lower tobacco sales and a lower price for gasoline. Investors were not sympathetic, sending the shares down -4.2%. Chief rival BJ Wholesale Club (NYSE: BJ - News) reported a 1.4% rise in same-store sales for the month and total sales climbed 6.4% to $661.7 million.
Food giant Kraft Foods (NYSE: KFT - News) pleased investors today when it upped its earnings forecast for the full year to $1.60-1.62 a share, up from its previous range of $1.50-1.52 a share. Excluding items, it expects to report EPS for the year of $1.80-1.82 a share. Analysts were expecting $1.80. The company cited strength in its growth initiatives and a lower tax rate for the improved outlook. Shares rose 1.4%. Subscribers can read our analysis of Kraft in today's issue. Also in the food sector, meat producer Tyson Foods (NYSE: TSN - News) chopped its yearly profit forecast as it is facing a tougher-than-expected fourth quarter. The company sees EPS of 72-80 cents a share for the year ending September 30th. In July, the company had said earnings would be in a range of 82-92 cents a share. Rising cattle and hog costs coupled with disruption in the South Korean beef trade are to blame for the shortfall. Shares plunged by -13%.
Toymaker Mattel (NYSE: MAT - News) continues to have its problems in China, as the company announced for the third time that it will recall toys that contain a high level of toxic led paint. The company is recalling 844,000 toys, including popular Fischer Price and Barbie brands.
Finally, in the tech sector, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL - News) once again grabbed investors' and consumers' attention with a big slate of product announcements, including a revamp of its popular iPod line. Most notably, the company unveiled the iPod Touch, a device with the same look and many of the same features as the iPhone, but lacking only phone capabilities. Apple also dropped the price on its 8GB iPhone to $399 and said it is phasing out the 4GB model completely. Investors "sold the news," sending the stock -5.1% lower.
