CNBC's Fast Money Recap Nov. 19th

The Dow closed down 218 points and the Nasdaq fell 43 points on Monday. Finerman sees storm clouds are everywhere and the Goldman downgrade of Citigroup (C) really hurt the markets. Najarian had a fun day trading. He also thinks the financial sector is in big trouble and he is extremely worried about General Motors (GM) which fell below $27.
Louise Yamada, a highly ranked technician on Wall Street, joined the show to discuss her analysis on the technicals of the market. She is currently worried that the S&P 500 could break 1406, which would signal to her an end of the longer-term uptrend. Yamada is still bullish on Cisco Systems (CSCO) and she would look to buy pullbacks on the name. She looked at the chart on Broadcom (BRCM) calling it a sell because it hasn't followed through after a false break-out. The chart on Coca-Cola (KO) is initiating an uptrend according to Yamada, so she would be a buyer of KO. Bed Bath and Beyond (BBBY) should be sold.
Retail
Nordstrom (JWN) reported a 22% rise in third-quarter profits helped by an extra week of sales.
Sears Holdings (SHLD) disclosed it has taken a 13.7% stake in Restoration Hardware (RSTO) and the possibility of proposing an acquisition.
Target (TGT) is set to report earnings Tuesday before the opening bell.
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) clocked a 28% jump in profits off of strong notebook sales.
Medtronic (MDT) reported a 2% decline in profits, but the stock trades 3% higher after hours.
Lowe's (LOW) dropped 7% after reporting a 10% decline in profits due to the weak housing market.
Celgene (CELG) bought Pharmion (PHRM) for $2.9 billion. Adami thinks that Phizer must make a similar acquisition.
EchoStar (DISH) shares exploded higher Monday after Citigroup said there was a 65% chance that AT&T (T) will buy DISH.
Ultimate Fighting is now the fasting growing spectator sport in the United States. Macke says look for growth in cable companies and satellite companies like Viacom (VIA) and EchoStar. He also thinks makers of energy drinks like Coca-Cola will benefit. He said avoid the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) because the UFC is taking share. Lastly, Macke speculated that Anheuser-Busch (BUD) could be near a beverage deal with the UFC.

Chip stocks traded lower after Morgan Stanley downgraded Intel (INTC), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and NVIDIA (NVDA) to underweight. CSX Corporation (CSX) traded lower after it was also downgraded by Morgan Stanley. Mattel (MAT) and Hasbro (HAS) traded lower after BMO Capital Markets downgraded the toy sector. Macke: the downgrade is about taking gains and he is still long Hasbro and Disney (DIS).
Carl Icahn: raised his stake in Temple-Inland (TIN) to 8.9% and BEA Systems (BEAS) to 11%.
Word on the Street
Wheat traded lower for the second day in a row on bearish planting forecasts. Najarian: the pullbacks in commodity names like BHP Billiton (BHP) and Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) are buying opportunities. He also sees continued buying in October call options on EchoStar (DISH). Macke agrees.
iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index ETF: falls 5% after a huge 2-day run.
TXU (TXU): Dylan Ratigan reported that financing for a TXU (TXU) buyout could be set to go next week. If this deal closes it will be the largest private equity deal ever. Finerman says that Guitar Center (GTRC) is also close to getting a deal done. Finerman's play on this very recent trend is Lehman Brothers (LEH) and Goldman Sachs (GS).
Blackberry
The Blackberry has been a gigantic hit for Research In Motion (RIMM) and investors have seen the stock for RIMM go up 126% on the year. Global Crown Capital increased the RIMM target price to $180 a share.
Face2Face
First writer asked about China Finance Online (JRJC), China BAK Battery (CBAK) and even Baidu.com (BIDU). Macke says neither bubble nor exuberance come to mind. He tells writer that these are momentum plays and you should treat them as such.
Another writer asked for some insight into what Garmin's (GRMN) recent volume is telegraphing? It was 7 times the average volume to the downside when the NAVTEQ (NVT) deal was announced Monday. Finerman: this is disruptive for two reasons. First, it makes the valuation of Garmin rich, and second it's a problem for Garmin to have someone buy the software it needs to make its product. Finerman owns NAVTEQ for a play on Garmin taking it over.

Final Trade
Macke: sell homebuilders and book the short-term gains.

Stock Market Wrapup Aug. 10th

Volatility has been the name of the game the past two weeks, and today, the final trading day of the week, was no different. Global stock markets fell hard overnight on still more credit market fears. At the onset of trading, all three major market averages here in the states fell significantly. However, bulls fought back in late trading to end the session slightly to the downside. The S&P managed to eek out a gain of half a point.
Continuing on the credit market fallout, central banks around the globe moved in unison to pump in liquidity to their respective banking systems. In total, over $135.7 billion was infused into systems in the past 24 hours from central banks in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Australia. On the domestic front, the Federal Reserve orchestrated three separate infusions in the system, which by the end of the day stood at $38 billion.
Overnight, Germany's largest bank Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE: DB - News) said an investment fund that has exposure to the subprime credit area has lost -30% of its value since July. The DWS fund said assets fell from 3 billion euros to 2.3 billion euros. Elsewhere, Renaissance Institutional Equities Fund, a $29 billion quantitative hedge fund run by James Simmons, told investors that its fund has fallen -8.7% so far this month.
The nation's largest mortgage lender, Countrywide Financial (NYSE: CFC - News), said last night in a regulatory filing that "unprecedented disruptions in debt markets could continue to worsen" and that it could potentially make it harder for the company to sell loans and obtain credit. Management said in a statement that "Since the company is highly dependent on the availability of credit to finance its operations, disruptions in the debt markets or a reduction in [its] credit ratings could have an adverse impact on [its] earnings and financial condition, particularly in the short term." Shares plunged in early-morning trading, but recouped the majority of its losses. The stock finished lower by -2.8%.
On the economic data front, the Labor Department said import prices came in hotter than expected in July. Prices of goods imported to the U.S. climbed 1.5% in the prior month, led by petroleum.
On the earnings side of the market, EchoStar Communications (Nasdaq: DISH - News) said second-quarter earnings rose 33% to $224.2 million, or 50 cents per share, up from $168.8 million, or 38 cents per share, last year. Revenues rose 12% to $2.76 billion. During the quarter, the satellite operator added 170,000 net new subscribers, down from 195,000 in the second quarter last year. The company did say that the SEC invalidated all hardware claims made by Tivo (Nasdaq: TIVO - News). Its shares rose 1.2% on the session. Elsewhere, Wyeth (NYSE: WYE - News) shares fell the most in a year after the drug company said U.S. regulators rejected its new schizophrenia drug because it wasn't shown to be effective. The FDA is now requesting more information.

Stock Market Wrapup Apr. 3

Signs that tensions were easing between Iran and Britain over captured British sailors sparked a sharp drop in crude oil prices today and helped spur a rally on Wall Street. Investors were also encouraged by a report that indicated home sales might be picking up. Trading was light, however, on a day that marks the start of Passover. The 10-year Treasury note closed lower.
The National Association of Realtors reported that pending sales of existing homes increased at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 0.7% in February compared with January. The industry group tracks signed contracts for used homes. Its index is still -8.5% below year-ago levels. In the oil markets, comments from a senior Iranian diplomat that the dispute over 15 British sailors and marines Iran says it captured trespassing in its waters would be resolved soon helped to cool a recent rise in futures prices.
Health insurers spiked today on a surprise announcement from the federal government that it would increase payments to firms operating private Medicare benefits plans by a greater amount than was expected. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said preliminary payments to companies that run Medicare Advantage programs will increase 3.5% in 2008. The market was looking for increases of between 2% and 3%. Among the shares rising today was Aetna (NYSE: AET - News). Also gaining today was Humana (NYSE: HUM - News), up 3.6%; Wellcare Healthplans (NYSE: WCG - News), which added 2.2%; and Coventry Health Care (NYSE: CVH - News), which closed 1.9% higher.
American automakers continued to fall short of efforts to post market share gains. Ford Motor (NYSE: F - News) reported a -9% drop in March vehicle sales; General Motors (NYSE: GM - News) said its sales declined -7.7%; and the Chrysler unit of DaimlerChrysler (NYSE: DCX - News) reported a -4% decline. Japan's Toyota Motor (NYSE: TM - News), meanwhile, continued its assault on Detroit, posting a 12% gain in U.S. sales during the same period. Despite the advance, Toyota has not yet overtaken Ford as the No. 2 U.S. automaker.
Shares of Google (Nasdaq: GOOG - News) rose 3.1% after it announced a deal with EchoStar Communications (Nasdaq: DISH - News) to create a system for auctioning advertising time over EchoStar's satellite TV network. Under the deal, Google will develop an online auction system, with advertisers bidding on the amount of money they are willing to pay per thousand households watching each commercial. Google has undertaken similar efforts in the radio and newspaper ad markets.
The planned merger of the two Chicago exchanges is on hold. Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings (NYSE: CME - News) announced it was postponing an April 4th shareholder meeting to vote on its proposed acquisition of CBOT Holding (NYSE: BOT - News). CBOT previously postponed a shareholder vote on the CME bid so its board could consider a competing offer from Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE: ICE - News). ICE is reported to have submitted a bid that is as much as $1 billion more than the $8 billion CME offered for its Chicago rival.

Google (GOOG) Sells Television Ads

Internet giant Google is spreading its wings beyond its traditional base of internet ad sales with an announcement that it will partner with US cable network EchoStar in an endeavour to sell television advertising. The service will not only reportedly change the way advertising is sold, with potential advertisers bidding for time on the air, but Google will also provide advertisers with detailed information regarding the viewership of each ad just 24 hours after the commercial airs. The company reports that the entire process will be automated - from planning the campaign to uploading and serving the ad to reporting on its effectiveness. "Like our AdWords advertising program, Google TV ads are bought using an auction model and through a single online interface that is already familiar to agencies and advertisers," the company says.

Jim Cramer's Wall Street Confidential Mar. 2

GlobalSantaFe (NYSE: GSF - News), Charter Communications (NasdaqGM: CHTR), EchoStar Communications (NasdaqGS: DISH),Viacom (NYSE: VIA - News)
Cramer commented that, in the drama and trauma that was last week's market,"There was tons of information that was totally overlooked" on conference calls, and he urges investors to do their homework and to review the conference calls of GSF, CHTR, DISH and VIA. All of these companies said important things that were ignored. He disapproves of a "scalping" approach to trading which investors use to fade the open or benefit from sudden market moves, such as a fall in U.S. markets due to an overseas event. Cramer calls this a strategy for underperformance. What is needed is homework, says Cramer, and he adds that every investor needs to ask;"Which stocks do I like on the S & P down 1%?' and circle the wagons around those stocks."

Apple Inc. (NasdaqGS:AAPL - News) was upgraded to overweight from equal weight at Lehman Bros., due primarily to valuation.
