Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap May 19th

In November, 2007, Cramer identified five stocks that he felt were made of Kevlar and could withstand the ailing economy and sub-prime mortgage crisis. To date those five stocks are up 8.8%, while the S&P 500 is down, 3.3%.
Cramer said it wasn't smooth sailing for his "bullet-proof" stocks at the start. Just a week after he mentioned the names, the portfolio was down a quick 6%. "But that's the point," he said, "we bought these stocks because they bounce back."
Cramer's first pick in his portfolio is Altria (MO), a stock which he owns for his charitable trust Action Alerts PLUS. Since the recommendation, Altria has spun off its Phillip Morris International (PM) division, and collectively the stocks are up 4.7% since November.
Cramer said he's a fan of both companies, especially Altria's 5% dividend yield.
Next on the list was Freeport-McMoran (FCX), another stock which he owns for his charitable trust Action Alerts PLUS.
Cramer called Freeport, which is up 11.9% since he mentioned it, the best copper story in the world.
Third in the portfolio was another Action Alerts name: Foster Wheeler (FWLT). Although Foster has been a laggard in the portfolio, down 1% since November, Cramer said the company is still levered to high energy prices around the world and here too and he's been buying more shares.
Fourth was Transocean (RIG), the star performer in the group, up 27.6%. Cramer called Transocean the best deep-water contract driller out there with great earnings visibility. He advised viewers to take some profits, but remained bullish on the company.
Finally, Cramer revisited Medco Health (MHS), a stock which is up just 0.7% since the November mention. Cramer said that while Medco makes its money whether or not the economy does well, it has more competition that he originally thought and perhaps the traditional defensive stock wasn't right for this portfolio. He told viewers "if it rallies, I'd sell it."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Feb 12th

Cleveland Cliffs (CLF), BHP Billington (BHP), Freeport-McMoran (FCX), Boeing (BA), Potash (POT), Deere (DE), Schlumberger (SLB), XTO Energy (XTO)
Tuesday saw the return of Cramer's five long-term bull markets: aerospace, minerals and mining, oil and oil service, agriculture and infrastructure, and those who believe that recovery is coming ruled the day. Aerospace was lifted by BA's news that, after several delays, the delivery of the long-awaited 787 Dreamliner may come on time. News of coal and copper shortages was good for BHP Billington and Freeport-McMoran. Cramer also recommended Cleveland Cliffs. Potash rallied after a bullish interview with CEO Bill Doyle. Cramer also mentioned his favorite ag stocks, Deere, and suggested investors buy more rather than worry about the sector on the next down day. Oil is well after Bear Stearns' upgrade of SLB and XTO's strong earnings. Infrastructure got a lift from Buffett's bid to rescue bond insurers, but Cramer warned that all of these gains could disappear, given how quickly the market has been moving.
CEO Interview: David Novak, Yum! Brands (YUM)
Cramer said Yum is one of the most pro-shareholder and pro-growth companies he has seen and is impressed by YUM's aggressive moves into China. In 2007, one new store was opened in China every day and three a day were opened in December 2007. Novak said the company's performance reminds him of how McDonalds began its initial expansion in the States. Domestic growth has not been forgotten, said Novak, adding the company will concentrate on desserts, healthier offerings and new beverages.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Feb. 11th

Altria (MO), Bank of America (BAC), Chevron (CVX), Honeywell (HON), Conco-Phillips (COP), Freeport-McMoran (FCX), Schlumberger (SLB), American International Group (AIG), Pfizer (PFE), Cisco (CSCO)
Cramer was disappointed with Dow Jones' facelift which involved getting rid of Altria, and Honeywell, and adding Bank of America and Chevron. Three economic themes Cramer thinks should have been expressed in the Index changes are the growing importance of natural resources, the dwindling power of the financial sector and international growth. None of these themes were reflected in today's choices, Cramer commented. He said a financial should have been removed rather than added to the Dow, COP would have been a better choice than CVX, and would have considered including FCX or SLB in addition to keeping HON. He would have dropped AIG which is a travesty masquerading as an insurance company whose CEO, Martin Sullivan, was recently added to Cramer's Wall of Shame. He would also give Pfizer the pink slip, and would consider adding CSCO, since it is diversified.
Raytheon (RTN)
In spite of Goldman's Sachs note of Early indications of slowing growth in defense spending..., the military budget keeps growing; President Bush is asking for a $515 million for 2009 which is a 7.5% increase. Cramer likes RTN in this space because it has strong international sales, and is up 25% since Goldman's downgrade last March, but he would wait for a pullback before buying.
McDonald's (MCD), Darden (DRI)
One month of data does not justify a bearish position on a restaurant stock, said Cramer, noting McDonald's $6 rise since Bear Stearns hastily downgraded the stock for weak December same store sales (January same store sales increases 5.7%) An even faster kneejerk (or, rather, prejerk) occurred when Darden was downgraded only a few minutes before its better-than-expected guidance was released. The moral of the story, according to Cramer, is that when analysts unfairly downgrade stock on scant data, it is time to buy. Cramer would buy MCD now even though it has risen a bit.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Dec. 10th

Triple-S Management (GTS)
True success stories on The Street may be harder to find these days, but Cramer has observed the progress of non-profit Blue Cross Blue Shield companies that turn into public for-profit companies and found in their first four years the stocks had increased an average of 28%. He would consider Triple-S Management (GTS) which went public last week and has yet to set the sector on fire, since it opened only 16 cents above its $14.50 and undershot its projected range of $16-$18. Cramer said the companies contracts will become profitable and warned investors to do homework before buying and to use limit orders.
CEO Interview: Jack Cumming Hologic (HOLX)
Cramer likes HOLX for its visibility, growth and clean balance sheet and asked Jack Cumming about the merger with Cytic which was closed on Oct 22 and is running ahead of schedule. Cumming discussed the company's $1.3 billion convertible bond offering as a strategy to eliminate debt. Concerning competitors, He noted HOLX entered the scene two years behind its main rivals and is nine months ahead on the race for digital mammography. "We believe that when you have nine No 1. products, you're expected to grow at a fantastic rate," Cumming said.
Live with Regis' Portfolio: JDS Uniphase (JDSU), Time Warner (TWX), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), LSI Logic (LSI), Unisys (UIS), Freeport-McMoRan (FCX), McDonald's (MCD), CVS Caremark (CVS), Oceaneering (OII), Transocean (RIG), Chevron (CVX)
Regis told viewers not to worry about holiday retail sales, since people are lining up outside stores, and Cramer reviewed Regis' portfolio. First, he told Regis he missed the ideal opportunity to sell Time Warner, which rose recently, and would sell it now. He also told Regis to sell AMD, since the company is having trouble with its next chip and has Hector Ruiz at the helm. The ticker JDSU stands for "just don't sue us," said Cramer and he told Regis to sell. He gave LSI a "tepid buy" and added "it has a shot at coming back," but Cramer told Regis Unisys was one big "house of pain." Cramer suggested Regis replace these names with FCS, MCD, CVS, OII, RIG and CVX.
Teledyne Technologies (TDY), Ansys (ANSS)
Cramer says TDY and ANSS are two "Upod artists" that overpromise and underdeliver; "Upod works because the bedrock predictor is the trumping of earnings estimates," he said. TDY is tapped into aerospace and oil, has exceeded estimates an average of 15% per quarter, has made smart acquisitions and is cheap, but Cramer would wait for it to dip before buying. Ansys is the "market leader" in simulation and software, has strong overseas exposure, 68% return business and has exceeded estimates 40 consecutive times. The stock may seem expensive, but it is growing at an impressive 19% and should be trading at a higher multiple.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Lightning Round Dec. 5th

Bullish calls:
CVS Caremark (CVS): 'I think it's unbelievably strong ... you should get in right here. ... CVS remains one of my favorite stocks in this environment.'), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ): 'That was a monster-good quarter. That was an All-Aboard quarter. ... That company is smoking. ... It's not done. I wanna own Hewlett-Packard ... and so should you.' Monster Worldwide (MNST): 'I thought that the new management team would turn things around ... Monster, I still think, is being set up to be bought.' St. Jude Medical (STJ): 'If you want to be in that cohort, it's gotta be S-T-J.' Freeport-McMoran (FCX): 'I'm willing to have you in Freeport (FCX - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr - Rating), cause that's copper and gold.' Transocean (RIG): 'This is a great opportunity. ... In the last three days ... Transocean went from $138 to $127 because they did financing.' Schlumberger (SLB) Raytheon (RTN) Wolverine World Wide (WWW) Nike (NKE) Vimpel Communications (VIP) Shaw Group (SGR) Countrywide Financial (CFC): 'It's a very technical situation. ... If the Fed cuts 50 basis points, Countrywide will work.'
Bearish calls:
Sysco (SYY): 'It's OK ... as long as the consumer's out there spending ... going to a lot of restaurants ... the problem is they're not going to restaurants as much. Don'tBuy.' Boston Scientific (BSX): 'Let me be very clear. I have disliked Boston Scientific for more than 10 points.' Titanium Metals (TIE) Taser (TASR): 'In this market, it's too hard for me. ... I do not want to buy Taser here. Don'tBuy.'

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Dec. 5th

Freeport-McMoRan (FCX)
With rising global demand for raw materials, the mining sector will be on fire for the long-term, and Cramer's favorite pick is FCX. Demand for copper is increasing, supplies dwindle, and since FCX is a leader in copper mining, it should be the chief beneficiary. In addition, FCX has an "unbelievably great" buyback. While there is a lot of consolidation in the sector, Cramer says FCX is doing fine on its own.
Hudson City Bancorp (HBCK), Wells Fargo (WFC)
While Cramer feels confident there will be a rate cut and recommends owning a bank stock, he cautions investors to look for a more stable financial in case the Fed surprises him. Cramer praised HBCK's common sense business model: "It takes deposits; it lends to good, hard-working people who then pay the loans back." HBCK is careful about choosing its borrowers, has fewer non-performing loans than relatively stable bank WFC and is rewarded with loyal customers because it doesn't slap on outrageous fees.
CEO Interview: Donald Wood, Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRT)
Donald Wood said the crisis in consumer confidence is mainly hitting certain parts of the country and FRT, which deals with shopping center real estate, has made the decision to concentrate on higher income areas with larger populations; "We leave other parts of the country alone," he said. "There is no hedge, in my view, in real estate like great locations." Cramer recommended sticking with FRT.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Lightning Round Nov. 30th

Abbott Labs (ABT): Cramer likes this stock because it has great drugs and diagnostics. He also recommended Baxter (BAX), Bard (BCR), and Becton Dickinson (BDX).
Infinera (INFN): Cramer doesn't want to be in this stock because he doesn't like the optical sector.
Southern Copper (PCU): Cramer is bullish on this stock, but he thinks Freeport McMoran (FCX) is better since it's cheap and he thinks it will be taken over soon.
Nordstroms (JWN): Cramer thinks this stock should go up to $36, so he would buy the stock here.
E*Trade (ETFC): Cramer thinks you will get hurt if you try to invest in this stock. He is bearish.
Anthracite Capital (AHR): This is a residential REIT, so Cramer is bearish. He recommended the caller buy Annaly Capital (NLY) instead.
Anadarko Petroleum (APC): Cramer thinks this stock is terrific, along with Apache (APA), Devon (DVN), and XTO (XTO).
Trane (TT): Cramer said he has been looking at this stock and was actually going to recommend it later tonight, but he has second thoughts about it because of its residential construction exposure. He still thinks it is a well run company.
Northern Trust (NTRS): Cramer thinks this and State Street (STT) are the best run financial institutions in the country, so he wants to recommend both of them.

Jim Cramer's Mad Mail Stock Recap Nov. 8th

Today's show began by Cramer telling us how to survive a recession caused by the real estate market because of the sell off that has happened the past two days. He said that you should sell any stock that has anything to do with housing, home building, finance, consumer spending, and any company that needs to borrow money to do business.
Then Cramer went to the phonelines. The first caller asked if we should be concerned about inflated assets being held by financial stocks, and Cramer said that these companies don't know what they are holding and that the industry is in disarray. Next caller asked about the price of oil, and Cramer said he is sticking with his $100 per barrel prediction. The last caller asked if Cramer still recommends investing in gold, and Cramer said that he thinks you should keep 10% of your portfolio in gold and gold related stocks.
Cramer then gave some stocks that he thinks will do well even if a recession happens. Altria (MO) has a large international business, a strong dividend, and its product is in high demand. The next stock is Freeport McMoran (FCX), which is also has good international sales and might be a buyout target in the near future. The next stock is Foster Wheeler (FWLT). Cramer likes this stock because it had a great 3rd quarter and he could see it doubling because it is strong in green businesses and oil. Cramer's next stock is Transocean (RIG), which Cramer likes because it will merge with GlobalSantaFe (GSF) and because it makes all its money overseas. Finally, Cramer likes MedcoHealth (MHS) because it is a medical cost containment play. ALl of these stocks were up today, even though the market was down.
After a break, Cramer took a few more calls. The first caller asked about the effect of China's plan to sell dollars, and Cramer thinks it is a lot of talk without any action. The next caller also asked about the falling dollar's effect on foreign investment, and Cramer said that he thinks a weak dollar gives international companies a chance to invest in the US.
"Sell Block." The first stock was Under Armour (UA) because it has lost its momentum, and Cramer doesn't think it will come back. Cramer also thinks you should sell (PMI), (MGIC), (MTG), and (ABK) if you own them because they will be drug down by the mortgage problems despite the fact that they look cheap now. He also thinks some of them might go out of business.
Mad Mail: One email asked about the shippers reporting earnings next week, which are (DRYS), (FRO), (EXM), and (TBSI), and Cramer said to buy half your position now and wait until after earnings to buy the rest. Another email praised Cramer for his interview with the CEO of Nastech (NSTK) yesterday, and Cramer said he can't sleep because he got that stock so wrong.
Cramer said it might be time to buy some more tech, such as Cisco (CSCO) and Google (GOOG).

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Oct. 17th

Wednesday's show started with Cramer talking about dry bulk shipping stocks. He likes them because they have large dividends, plus the stocks have room to go up. Over the past 6 months they have been ignored by most investors while going up. Cramer recommends OceanFreight (OCNF), Paragon Shipping (PRGN), Diana Shipping (DSX), and Genco Shipping (GNK). Cramer then had the chairman of Genco on the show to explain how this business works and where he thinks his company and the industry are heading.
eBay (EBAY): After the break, Cramer said that you should hold on to eBay and that he thinks the stock will go up to $50. He then continued his analysis on dry bulk shipping stocks. Cramer said that Paragon is his favorite conservative shipper, and Diana is his favorite shipper with more risk, since it hasn't contracted out all its shipping for 2008. Cramer thinks rates will rise.
Cramer then went to the phones. The first caller asked about Nicor (GAS) and its relationship to Cuban democracy once Castro dies, and Cramer said that Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS) and Freeport McMoran (FCX) are better Cuban democracy plays. The next caller asked about Superior Offshore (DEEP), which Cramer thinks you should wait until November to buy if you are interested in the stock.
After the lightning round Cramer had Mark Penn, the author of Microtrends, on the show. Cramer thinks this book will give him stock ideas for the next 25 shows. The Microtrends plays that Cramer mentioned on today's show are lululemon (LULU) and Gamestop (GME).
"Am I Diversified?,"
First caller asked if Google (GOOG), Manulife (MFC), Brocade (BRCD), Volvo (VOLV) and CVRD (RIO) represented a diversified portfolo. Cramer blessed the portfolio. Second caller asked about Halliburton (HAL), Peabody (BTU), Google, Enterprise (EPD), and cash. Cramer said the portfolio relied on "too much energy complex." The final caller asked about Apple (AAPL), McDonald's (MCD), Caterpillar (CAT), ConocoPhillips (COP) and Schering-Plough (SGP). Cramer said "You've got absolute diversification."

CNBC's Fast Money Recap Oct. 3rd

Chip stocks traded lower after Morgan Stanley downgraded Intel (INTC), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and NVIDIA (NVDA) to underweight. CSX Corporation (CSX) traded lower after it was also downgraded by Morgan Stanley. Mattel (MAT) and Hasbro (HAS) traded lower after BMO Capital Markets downgraded the toy sector. Macke: the downgrade is about taking gains and he is still long Hasbro and Disney (DIS).
Carl Icahn: raised his stake in Temple-Inland (TIN) to 8.9% and BEA Systems (BEAS) to 11%.
Word on the Street
Wheat traded lower for the second day in a row on bearish planting forecasts. Najarian: the pullbacks in commodity names like BHP Billiton (BHP) and Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) are buying opportunities. He also sees continued buying in October call options on EchoStar (DISH). Macke agrees.
iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index ETF: falls 5% after a huge 2-day run.
TXU (TXU): Dylan Ratigan reported that financing for a TXU (TXU) buyout could be set to go next week. If this deal closes it will be the largest private equity deal ever. Finerman says that Guitar Center (GTRC) is also close to getting a deal done. Finerman's play on this very recent trend is Lehman Brothers (LEH) and Goldman Sachs (GS).
Blackberry
The Blackberry has been a gigantic hit for Research In Motion (RIMM) and investors have seen the stock for RIMM go up 126% on the year. Global Crown Capital increased the RIMM target price to $180 a share.
Face2Face
First writer asked about China Finance Online (JRJC), China BAK Battery (CBAK) and even Baidu.com (BIDU). Macke says neither bubble nor exuberance come to mind. He tells writer that these are momentum plays and you should treat them as such.
Another writer asked for some insight into what Garmin's (GRMN) recent volume is telegraphing? It was 7 times the average volume to the downside when the NAVTEQ (NVT) deal was announced Monday. Finerman: this is disruptive for two reasons. First, it makes the valuation of Garmin rich, and second it's a problem for Garmin to have someone buy the software it needs to make its product. Finerman owns NAVTEQ for a play on Garmin taking it over.
Pops & Drops
Pops- Panera Bread (PNRA) traded up 8%. Adami thinks Panera will rally into earnings and then it will be time to sell it.
Harley Davidson (HOG) traded up 6% off. Najarian says its still way off the highs.
Kaiser Aluminum (KALU) popped 7%. Finerman agrees that the stock is still undervalued.
Circuit City (CC) traded up 5%. Macke: Get out of Circuit City while you can.
KB Home (KBH) traded up 5%. Adami says take the profits and run.
NYSE Euronext (NYX) traded up 2%. Adami says $85 will be big resistance for NYX.
Drops- Wynn (WYNN) fell 10% and Las Vegas Sands (LVS) fell 12% off of disappointing growth numbers for Macau. Najarian says the numbers out of Macau were not as big as people thought they would be, hence the disappointment.
Midway Games (MWY) fell 5%. Macke: MWY is married to Sony whose Playstation has tough competition against the Nintendo Wii.
Final Trade
Macke: sell homebuilders and book the short-term gains.
Finerman: going with Icahn and BEA Systems (BEAS).
Najarian likes Apple (AAPL).

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Oct. 3rd

Barrick Gold (ABX), Cramer: "the best gold stock to buy right now." Gold is breaking out because of the weak dollar, lower short-term rates and worries about inflation. Cramer prefers Barrick over other gold companies, because they have a lot of gold reserves and are "totally prepared for higher gold prices." The next call was about Freeport McMoran (FCX). Cramer thinks it will keep going up to $120.
Overlooked IPO's:
AthenaHealth (ATH). Cramer likes its subscription revenue and growth prospects. Athenahealth has 42% growth. He then took some more phone calls.
A caller asked about LDK Solar (LDK); Cramer doesn't like because he thinks there is a big sell off in China stocks coming. He also likes First Solar (FSLR) better.
Another caller asked about Blackstone (BX). Cramer thinks the stock has bottomed out and that there is a short term trading opportunity here.
Am I diversified?
First caller named the following five stocks: SAP (SAP), Annaly Capital Management (NLY), Nvidia (NVDA), BEA Systems (BEAS) and Honeywell (HON). Cramer said too many tech stocks. He said to keep BEA and consider buying a health care stock.
Second caller had Apple (AAPL), Trimble (TRMB), Xoma (XOMA), Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) and Goldman Sachs (GS). He suggested selling Trimble and, again, picking up a health care cost-container like Hologic.
The last player's five picks: Monsanto (MON), PepsiCo (PEP) Research In Motion (RIMM), U.S. Steel (X) and Exxon Mobil (XOM). Cramer blessed the portfolio as diversified.
Mad Mail: Responding to an email, Cramer called Walgreen (WAG) "still too expensive," and said he likes the cheaper CVS (CVS), which he owns for his charitable trust, better. He said, "Stay away from Walgreen."
Sudden Death: Cramer was bullish on Flotek Industries (FTK), Celgene (CELG) and Crocs (CROX).

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap July 26th

Bull Meat Barbecue
Although Thursday's selloff resembled a "bull meat barbecue," Cramer encouraged viewers not to lose heart and reiterated his principle that there is always a bull market somewhere. He made a checklist of three kinds of stocks to avoid: Stocks, such as housing, which need low interest rates to go higher, stocks (restaurants, retail etc.) with too much leverage to the domestic economy, and companies which must borrow to make an acquisition. Cramer emphasized the importance of selling these stocks, especially for those who did not lighten their portfolios before the selloff and those who cannot take the pain and wait for these sectors to recover.
