The following companies showed unusually heavy volume in Wednesday midday trading on the Nasdaq. Higher-than-normal volume can indicate increased activity by institutions such as mutual funds and insurance companies. Upward stock movement on such volume can show increased confidence among investors, while selling can signal pressure on a stock.
Communications software maker Docucorp International Inc. saw heavy trading volume after the company said it agreed to let privately held Skywire Software buy it for about $127 million, or $10 per share, in cash.

Trading volume increased to about 1.4 million from a usual trading level of 30,000 shares changing hands. Shares added $2.26, or 30 percent, to $9.76.

GoAmerica Inc. surged after the maker of wireless and online relay products for deaf users said it launched a video calling platform for deaf people.
Using a computer and Web camera, deaf users can communicate with other people using sign language, the company said.

Trading volume increased 23 times its usual level to about 3 million shares changing hands, while adding $2.31, or 41 percent, to $7.98.
Directed Electronics Inc. traded more than usual after the security and entertainment automobile systems maker slashed its earnings guidance for 2006. The company cited lower-than-expected sales of satellite radio receivers.
Trading volume increased 16 times its usual to about 1.3 million shares, while the stock declined $2.06, or 16 percent, to $11.10.

Leadis Technology Inc. traded about eight times more than usual, with 2 million shares changing hands. About 86 percent of the trades occurred in blocks, which typically indicates trading by an institution.
Shares added 9 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $4.44.
