Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap May 19th

In November, 2007, Cramer identified five stocks that he felt were made of Kevlar and could withstand the ailing economy and sub-prime mortgage crisis. To date those five stocks are up 8.8%, while the S&P 500 is down, 3.3%.
Cramer said it wasn't smooth sailing for his "bullet-proof" stocks at the start. Just a week after he mentioned the names, the portfolio was down a quick 6%. "But that's the point," he said, "we bought these stocks because they bounce back."
Cramer's first pick in his portfolio is Altria (MO), a stock which he owns for his charitable trust Action Alerts PLUS. Since the recommendation, Altria has spun off its Phillip Morris International (PM) division, and collectively the stocks are up 4.7% since November.
Cramer said he's a fan of both companies, especially Altria's 5% dividend yield.
Next on the list was Freeport-McMoran (FCX), another stock which he owns for his charitable trust Action Alerts PLUS.
Cramer called Freeport, which is up 11.9% since he mentioned it, the best copper story in the world.
Third in the portfolio was another Action Alerts name: Foster Wheeler (FWLT). Although Foster has been a laggard in the portfolio, down 1% since November, Cramer said the company is still levered to high energy prices around the world and here too and he's been buying more shares.
Fourth was Transocean (RIG), the star performer in the group, up 27.6%. Cramer called Transocean the best deep-water contract driller out there with great earnings visibility. He advised viewers to take some profits, but remained bullish on the company.
Finally, Cramer revisited Medco Health (MHS), a stock which is up just 0.7% since the November mention. Cramer said that while Medco makes its money whether or not the economy does well, it has more competition that he originally thought and perhaps the traditional defensive stock wasn't right for this portfolio. He told viewers "if it rallies, I'd sell it."

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Feb. 11th

Altria (MO), Bank of America (BAC), Chevron (CVX), Honeywell (HON), Conco-Phillips (COP), Freeport-McMoran (FCX), Schlumberger (SLB), American International Group (AIG), Pfizer (PFE), Cisco (CSCO)
Cramer was disappointed with Dow Jones' facelift which involved getting rid of Altria, and Honeywell, and adding Bank of America and Chevron. Three economic themes Cramer thinks should have been expressed in the Index changes are the growing importance of natural resources, the dwindling power of the financial sector and international growth. None of these themes were reflected in today's choices, Cramer commented. He said a financial should have been removed rather than added to the Dow, COP would have been a better choice than CVX, and would have considered including FCX or SLB in addition to keeping HON. He would have dropped AIG which is a travesty masquerading as an insurance company whose CEO, Martin Sullivan, was recently added to Cramer's Wall of Shame. He would also give Pfizer the pink slip, and would consider adding CSCO, since it is diversified.
Raytheon (RTN)
In spite of Goldman's Sachs note of Early indications of slowing growth in defense spending..., the military budget keeps growing; President Bush is asking for a $515 million for 2009 which is a 7.5% increase. Cramer likes RTN in this space because it has strong international sales, and is up 25% since Goldman's downgrade last March, but he would wait for a pullback before buying.
McDonald's (MCD), Darden (DRI)
One month of data does not justify a bearish position on a restaurant stock, said Cramer, noting McDonald's $6 rise since Bear Stearns hastily downgraded the stock for weak December same store sales (January same store sales increases 5.7%) An even faster kneejerk (or, rather, prejerk) occurred when Darden was downgraded only a few minutes before its better-than-expected guidance was released. The moral of the story, according to Cramer, is that when analysts unfairly downgrade stock on scant data, it is time to buy. Cramer would buy MCD now even though it has risen a bit.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Dec. 7th

The Fuel is Greener: Deere (DE), Monsanto (MON), Bunge (BG), Mosaic (MOS), Agrium (AGU), Potash (POT)
When looking at the agriculture bull market, Cramer urged investors to think energy and not food. As oil prices rise, the pressure to develop alternative fuels from soybeans and corn will increase. This has been good news for farming stocks such as Deere, Bunge and Monsanto and especially fertilizer companies, Agrium, Potash and Mosaic. "All of these gains have been driven by demand," Cramer said and sees years of upside in this sector. However, since many agriculture stocks have already increased substantially, Cramer would wait for a decline before buying many of them.
Still Time for NYSE Euronext (NYX)
While NYX has been the worst performing stock Cramer has seen in 26 years in the business, he would stay with it. His thesis for owning the stock is unchanged and the only reason NYX went down is because "it was just going down…. Even though you hate owning it, nothing fundamental has changed for the company underneath it." In fact, NYX keeps beating estimates, its fundamentals are better than they were at the beginning of the year, and Cramer thinks this bear raid on NYX can't last forever.
Sitting on the Fed Fence: Kroger (KR), Costco (COST)
Cramer advised a wait and see strategy concerning the Fed meeting on Tuesday. A quarter point cut in rates could lead to recession fears and may bring some stocks down. On the other hand, a half a point cut could be a buying opportunity for banks tech and industrials. If it weren’t for the meeting, Cramer would suggest buying Costco and Kroger ahead of their earnings reports, but now he recommends waiting before making a move.
Meet the Mutual Fund Manager: Ron Muhlenkamp of Muhlenkamp (MUHLX) with stocks: Altria (MO), Devon Energy (DVN), Cemex (CX)
Cramer said investing in a mutual fund is really an investment in the fund’s manager, and invited Ron Muhlenkamp to discuss his strategy of finding good companies at low prices, particularly names others don’t recognize yet or like. He discussed MO, one of the fund’s holdings and said there is room to grow for DVN and CX.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Oct. 12th

Cramer talked about three stocks that could benefit this week from the weak dollar. Coca-Cola (KO), which Cramer expects to hit $60 next week. The stock closed at $57.80.
Next is United Technologies (UTX), which Cramer said should "handily" beat its numbers with its great overseas exposure. Lastly, there is Altria (MO), which he also owns for his Action Alerts PLUS and which he believes is still the cheapest stock on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Cramer also said that Citigroup (C) CEO Chuck Prince could be out of his position next week. Market players should consider getting into Citigroup by Friday.
BEA Systems (BEAS) got a massive takeover bid from Oracle (ORCL), something Cramer said he's been predicting would happen for a while. Activist investor Carl Icahn told Cramer that he was "right on" with his predictions. Icahn also said he feels Motorola (MOT) has "great value" and should be split up.
UBS (UBS) - Cramer told viewers that when a stock reports bad news and still goes higher, it's telling people it has bottomed and is ready to go much higher. He said that the bad news had been priced in the stock and now it is ready to go higher.
Tutogen Medical (TTG). On speculation Friday, Cramer said that although the stock is less than $1 away from its 52-week high, it looks like Tutogen could be headed up on deals with other companies. Cramer likes the stock, because it's likely it will get a bid from Zimmer Holdings (ZMH).
Cramer welcomed Chicago Bear linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer on his show. When Hillenmeyer asked Cramer about Las Vegas Sands (LVS), Cramer pointed out the management there is "extraordinary." However, he believes Wynn (WYNN) is running the best casino in Macau. Cramer advised taking a little off the table. Next, he suggested Hillenmeyer consider selling JetBlue (JBLU) on Monday and buying more NYSE (NYX), which Cramer owns for his charitable trust, below $80

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Aug. 21st

Playing it Safe with Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG - News)
As interest rates go lower, dividends will rise in value, and Cramer recommends PG as a "money in the bank" dividend stock. While at first glance, few would be impressed by a $64 stock with a 2.2% yield, Cramer reminded viewers that PG was at $30 in 2000. Reinvesting PG's dividend is like having "compound interest" said Cramer and he lauds PG for its "mega buyback." He predicts PG will reach $90 and is a good way to "Fed-proof your portfolio."
How Much is that PetSmart in the Window? VCA Antech (NasdaqGS: WOOF - News), PetMed Express (NasdaqGS: PETS - News) and PetSmart (NasdaqGS: PETM - News)
The heated discussion over NFL star quarterback Michael Vick's upcoming trial shows "people won't stand for cruelty to animals," said Cramer who unveiled some of his pet picks and peeves. One pet peeve was WOOF's "piled-up debt," but he liked discount pet pharmacist PETS for its personalized care. However, his best pet pick was PETM, which is up $3 from where he recommended it in January. PETM is known for selling "high-class premium" items and has $245 million cash on hand. PETM will remain the victor as its main rival, Petco, will probably close stores after being taken over by a "debt-ridden" company.
Everybody out of the Poole: Bear Stearns (NYSE: BSC - News), Countrywide Financial (NYSE: CFC - News), Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS - News)
Cramer defended his vigorous criticism of St. Louis Federal Reserve President William Poole, who said interest rates should be raised, not lowered. Cramer accused Poole of "single-handedly attempting to destroy" the market and said he should put in his resignation. Senator Kent Conrad (D, N.D), chairman of the Budget Committee, was Cramer's guest caller and said Poole's proposal was "reckless and irresponsible" and would cause a calamity. He added difficulties at BSC, CFC and GS speak for themselves. Conrad added Poole' s statements showed a "lack of confidence" in the market, and Cramer concluded the segment with his hope that " people on Wall Street are as considerate as those in the Senate."
Mad Mail: Altria (NYSE: MO - News), Melco PBL Entertainment (NasdaqGM: MPEL - News), Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS - News) and Wynn Resorts (NasdaqGS: WYNN - News)
Cramer says there is "good news coming" at Altria with a rise of 5 points to the 70s but not the 80s, since it is a stock "everybody already owns" and has limited upside. Atlhough he liked the IPO, Cramer says MPEL is now worst of breed and prefers LVS or WYNN.

Jim Cramer's Wall Street Confidential Aug. 16th

PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP - News), Pfizer (NYSE: PFE - News), Schering-Plough (NYSE: SGP - News), Kellogg (NYSE: K - News), General Mills (NYSE: GIS - News), Altria (NYSE: MO - News), CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS - News), MedcoHealth (NYSE: MHS - News), Cardinal Health (NYSE: CAH - News)
Cramer says almost everyone, including him, is "getting killed" in this market, and he wants viewers to understand "why it's so cataclysmic out there, so at least they have the grounding to say, 'OK, I'm willing to ride this out." While some suggest getting out of stocks, Cramer recognizes many people invest for the long term. However, he added; "What I'm trying to do is focus on what can work and what will really be hurt, not what's working, because nothing's working." Cramer said he got through the credit crunch in 1990s by focusing on the bull market and on 20 stocks that weren't losing. Examples may be PEP, PFE, SGP, K, GIS, MO, CVS, MHS, CAH. While he may have 10 to 1 bears out of every stock pile, Cramer urges viewers to "recognize that as the Federal Reserve continues to do a de facto tightening, you're going to continue to have spillover."

Reliance Steel (RS): "Everybody's decided that all the steel stocks have to be SoldSoldSold. ... What Cramer's telling you is to pull the trigger on this weakness after that great quarter. Pretty simple."
Hercules Offshore (HERO): "The reason that it's not kept pace with the group is that it's shallow drilling. ... I cannot get behind that one." Cramer recommended instead deepwater drillers Transocean (RIG) and GlobalSantaFe (GSF).
"Goldman Sachs (GS) is challenged not as a company. ... I'm staying pat with Goldman Sachs for Action Alerts PLUS, my charitable trust." For dividend-paying stocks, Cramer recommended the following: the dry-bulk carriers; Consolidated Edison (ED), for a conservative dividend play; Altria (MO), for more risk; and AT&T (T), on a pullback. He also owns Altria for Action Alerts PLUS.
Flotek Industries (FTK): "I think Flotek is one of the kind of stocks ... that fits into my RIG and GlobalSantaFe thesis. ... This group is so in bull market mode, it is taking up everything!"
Brookfield Asset Management (BAM): "People have been dissin' it," Cramer said, but it depends on your time frame. CEO J. Bruce Flatt "is a great, great investor, and BAM ... should be bought here. I think people dissin' BAM are gonna have to face the music."
AT&T (T): "Reports this week, and I'm not concerned about the quarter." Cramer said that with a buyback or a dividend boost, "this stock goes to $42." But otherwise, he said, it stays where it is. "It's just not that exciting."
Valmont Industries (VMI): "I have been talking about this bull market in lighting, and it's really working here." Cramer said Valmont is at the crux of the agriculture, industrial and infrastructure bull markets. "It's a winner. I would stick with Valmont."

Stock Market Wrapup July 18th

The major market averages all slipped on the session as rising fears about subprime loans hit the street. However, stocks were able to pare much of their losses late in the day. Oil continued to strengthen climbing above $75 a barrel, finishing the day up $1.03.
The consumer price index, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.2% this month, the Labor Department said. The rise was in line with what Wall St. had expected. Also in economic news, the Commerce Department reported that building permits dropped to an annual pace of 1.406 million last month, the lowest level in a decade.
The earnings parade was in full force today, with a number of big-cap players reporting results. Banking behemoth JP Morgan Chase (NYSE: JPM - News) reported Q2 earnings of $4.23 billion, or $1.20 a share, up from $3.54 billion, or 99 cents a share, a year earlier. On the top line, JP Morgan reported revenue of $18.91 billion, representing year-over-year growth of 25%, and coming in well ahead of analyst estimates for revenue of $17.62 billion. JP Morgan's EPS for the quarter easily surpassed the consensus estimate of $1.09. Despite the strong quarter the shares fell -2.4% due to a -10% profit slide in its Financial Services unit, which was dragged down by troubles in home equity loans.
Altria Group (NYSE: MO - News) posted earnings of $2.22 billion, or $1.05 a share, as revenues rose 9.7% to $18.8 billion fueled by strong results at its international tobacco business. The stock fell -1.0%, however, after it lowered fiscal 2007 earnings estimates. It now expects to post EPS, including charges, of $4.05-4.10 compared to the $4.20-4.25 previously thought. Subscribers can read our analysis of Altria Group in today's issue.
Another Dow component, United Technologies (NYSE: UTX - News), reported robust earnings of $1.15 billion, or $1.16 a share. Sales rose to $13.9 billion from $12.26 billion a year earlier on strength in its commercial aerospace business. Chip and technology giant Intel (Nasdaq: INTC - News), meanwhile, reported a mixed quarter when it said net income in the second quarter rose 44% from year-ago levels to $1.28 billion, or 22 cents a share. Revenue came in at $8.68 billion, a rise of 8%. However, a decline in gross margins to 46.9% sent shares down -4.8%.
Pharmaceutical powerhouse Pfizer (NYSE: PFE - News) said net income plunged -48% due to a -13% fall in sales of cholesterol drug Lipitor. Net income was $1.27 billion, or 18 cents a share, below a profit of 33 cents a year earlier. Revenue dropped -5.6% to $11.1 billion, lower than a forecast of $11.5 billion. Excluding restructuring and acquisition costs, EPS would have been 42 cents a share, below analyst estimates of a profit of 50 cents a share. Shares slipped -3.2%. Subscribers can read our analysis of Pfizer in today's issue.
Internet giant Yahoo (Nasdaq: YHOO - News) said profit came in at $160.6 million, or 11 cents a share, which matched analyst estimates, but was down -2% from year-ago levels. Total revenue for the second quarter modestly rose to $1.7 billion from $1.58 billion in the year-ago period. Subscribers can read our analysis of Yahoo in today's issue. Shares of Macy's (NYSE: M - News) surged 7.6% on an otherwise sour session on a report that Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts was mulling a bid for the retailer valued at around $24 billion.
