SkillSoft plc (SKIL) Profit Soars

SkillSoft PLC, an online education and training software maker, said Friday its fiscal first-quarter profit soared as revenue increased and certain expenses tightened. Shares rose in premarket activity.
For the quarter ended April 30, the company earned $7.5 million, or 7 cents per share, up 85 percent from $4.1 million, or 4 cents per American Depositary Share, in the same period a year ago.
Revenue climbed 5 percent to $57.1 million from $54.7 million.
Analysts, on average, were looking for earnings of 6 cents per ADR on sales of $57.7 million, according to a poll by Thomson Financial.
