Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap Dec. 10th

Triple-S Management (GTS)
True success stories on The Street may be harder to find these days, but Cramer has observed the progress of non-profit Blue Cross Blue Shield companies that turn into public for-profit companies and found in their first four years the stocks had increased an average of 28%. He would consider Triple-S Management (GTS) which went public last week and has yet to set the sector on fire, since it opened only 16 cents above its $14.50 and undershot its projected range of $16-$18. Cramer said the companies contracts will become profitable and warned investors to do homework before buying and to use limit orders.
CEO Interview: Jack Cumming Hologic (HOLX)
Cramer likes HOLX for its visibility, growth and clean balance sheet and asked Jack Cumming about the merger with Cytic which was closed on Oct 22 and is running ahead of schedule. Cumming discussed the company's $1.3 billion convertible bond offering as a strategy to eliminate debt. Concerning competitors, He noted HOLX entered the scene two years behind its main rivals and is nine months ahead on the race for digital mammography. "We believe that when you have nine No 1. products, you're expected to grow at a fantastic rate," Cumming said.
Live with Regis' Portfolio: JDS Uniphase (JDSU), Time Warner (TWX), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), LSI Logic (LSI), Unisys (UIS), Freeport-McMoRan (FCX), McDonald's (MCD), CVS Caremark (CVS), Oceaneering (OII), Transocean (RIG), Chevron (CVX)
Regis told viewers not to worry about holiday retail sales, since people are lining up outside stores, and Cramer reviewed Regis' portfolio. First, he told Regis he missed the ideal opportunity to sell Time Warner, which rose recently, and would sell it now. He also told Regis to sell AMD, since the company is having trouble with its next chip and has Hector Ruiz at the helm. The ticker JDSU stands for "just don't sue us," said Cramer and he told Regis to sell. He gave LSI a "tepid buy" and added "it has a shot at coming back," but Cramer told Regis Unisys was one big "house of pain." Cramer suggested Regis replace these names with FCS, MCD, CVS, OII, RIG and CVX.
Teledyne Technologies (TDY), Ansys (ANSS)
Cramer says TDY and ANSS are two "Upod artists" that overpromise and underdeliver; "Upod works because the bedrock predictor is the trumping of earnings estimates," he said. TDY is tapped into aerospace and oil, has exceeded estimates an average of 15% per quarter, has made smart acquisitions and is cheap, but Cramer would wait for it to dip before buying. Ansys is the "market leader" in simulation and software, has strong overseas exposure, 68% return business and has exceeded estimates 40 consecutive times. The stock may seem expensive, but it is growing at an impressive 19% and should be trading at a higher multiple.

CNBC's Fast Money Recap Nov. 5th

Citigroup (C) fell 5% Monday after news of more write-downs and CEO Chuck Prince’s departure. Charlie Gasparino joined the show to give his opinion on Citigroup. He thinks that Citigroup didn’t pop on the news of Prince leaving because Chairman Robert Rubin failed to communicate the new Citigroup vision that everyone on Wall Street was looking for. Macke thinks that Citigroup has to clear the deck and bring in somebody new to run the company.
Chartology: Technical analyst John Roque of Natexis Bleichroeder was on the show to give his analysis on the technical signs in the market. Roque still likes the longer term trend line on the S&P moving average. He predicts that the financials will be under performers for a long time. Roque also points out that the trend for oil, silver and gold remains up and if history is a guide that up trend will continue. He is positive about Newmont Mining (NEM) and thinks the stock can trade into the high $80’s.
Ethanol: Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) is set to report earnings on Tuesday. Najarian tells investors to look to at Deere (DE) and Bunge (BG) instead. Adami would rather be in Potash (POT) for an ethanol play.
IAC/InterActive Corp (IACI) announced plans Monday to split up into 5 separate companies. Also, Kraft (KFT) is looking to sell its Post cereal business for $2.8 billion. Finerman is happy with the news. Macke also likes Kraft's plans, but he wasn’t a big fan of IAC/InterActive’s plans to spin off divisions. Najarian thinks that Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) could benefit from a break up.
Technology: Google (GOOG) announces plans to create an open platform, Android, for the mobile phone market. Sun Microsystems (JAVA) falls after hours on lighter then expected revenue numbers. Macke thinks companies like VMware (VMW) and its technology could put JAVA out of business in the future. Dell (DELL) announced plans on Monday to buy virtualization software maker EqualLogic for $1.4 billion. Activision (ATVI) reports a second quarter profit as revenue soars.
Word on the Street: Time Warner (TWX) CEO Richard Parsons will step down on January 1st and be replaced by Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Bewkes. Finerman likes the retail stocks better than financials. She bought call options on Friday and Monday on Crocs (CROX) and also thinks Under Armour (UA) and Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS) are interesting here. PetroChina (PTR) topped $1 trillion in market cap surpassing Exxon Mobil (XOM). Adami likes that Chevron (CVX) preformed okay in a lousy tape today.
Pops & Drops
Pops -First Solar (FSLR) traded up 10% after hours on news of a $1 billion module supply contract.
Marvel Entertainment (MVL) traded up 16% on a strong profits report.
Mattel (MAT) traded up 4%
Ballard Power Systems (BLDP) traded up 12%
WellCare Health Plans (WCG) popped 22% on a 67% increase in profits.
Sysco (SYY) traded up 2% after reporting a 16% rise in profits.

AOL Cuts 20 Percent of Workforce

AOL parent company Time Warner is cutting 2,000 jobs across the AOL division, including 750 positions in Northern Virginia.
About 1,200 of the cuts will be in the U.S., with the balance of layoffs coming at AOL operations outside of the U.S. The company will notify affected U.S. employees Tuesday, says AOL spokeswoman Anne Bentley. The rest of the reductions are expected to be made by the end of the year, she says.
The cuts represent about 20 percent of AOL's worldwide workforce. AOL has about 4,000 employees in Northern Virginia.
"This realignment will allow us to increase investment in high-growth areas of the company - as an example, we added hundreds of people this year through acquisitions - while scaling back in areas with less growth potential or those that aren't core to our business," Time Warner chief executive Randy Falco said in a memo to AOL employees obtained by the Washington Business Journal. "Everyone impacted by this reduction deserves our thanks and respect for their contributions to the company."
Falco's memo promised "generous severance packages" to affected employees.
Time Warner (NYSE: TWX - News) has shifted AOL's business from a subscriber-driven company to one supported by advertising. The division lost 1.1 million paid subscribers in the second quarter, trimming overall revenue by 38 percent, although advertising sales continue to rise.
Last month, the company announced plans to move AOL's corporate headquarters from Dulles to New York.

Jim Cramer's Mad Money Stock Recap June 11th

Live with Regis: Time Warner (NYSE: TWX), EMC (NYSE: EMC), Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU)
During Cramer's celebration of his 500th Mad Money program, he received a call from Regis Philbin who congratulated Cramer and asked him to comment on his portfolio. Concerning TWX, Cramer said he is still bullish; "We have to give Dick Parsons the chance to take it to $30" from $20.61. He added EMC is one of the few tech stocks he recommends, but suggested getting rid of ALU which has "hurt a lot of people."
Gaffes of Yesteryear: Dick's Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) and Montpelier Re Holdings (NYSE: MRH), Sealy's (NYSE: ZZ)
Recalling some of his errors along with his triumphs, Cramer revisited his recommendation to buy DKS right before its earnings report in August 2005 after which the stock got hammered. "This was an 18% loss overnight, and it doesn't get much worst than that," he said. He learned from this experience that buying before an earnings report may entail after-hours trading during which a stock can get slaughtered by the shorts. Cramer also recommended MRH, an insurance company focused on the Southeast region, as Hurricane Katrina was beginning. The stock was down on news of the impending hurricane, and Cramer thought MRH would have a bounce aftethe storm. However, no one quite understood how destructive Katrina would be, and the stock has yet to recover. In April 2006, Cramer recommended buying IPO Sealy at $18, but it fell to $12 two months later, because it was a "low-quality IPO."
Not the Chocolates: Fannie Mae (NYSE: FNM)
While FNM has increased, Cramer would still buy, because he envisions "tons" of upgrades for this comeback stock. He calls FNM a "money machine" even though it is a "quasigovernment" stock and is a good way to play the Democratic Congress, since the Republicans were doing business with big banks rather than with FNM, "But the Democrats put a stop to that when they took both Houses last November," Cramer said. With government backing, FNM can issue bonds cheaply, and it has a great dividend and a solid insurance business, said Cramer.
Sell Block: Qwest Communications (NYSE: Q), Apple (NasdaqGS: AAPL)
Cramer would get rid of Q because of the unexpected retirement of Richard Notebaert, who was the reason Cramer was bullish on Q. He would sell and buy AAPL, which is down 4 points.

Verizon (NYSE: VZ), AT&T (NYSE: T), Comcast (NasdaqGS: CMCSA): Cramer likes companies VZ, T, CMCSA which offer triple-play packages of broadband internet, TV and phone service. He encouraged investors to see the three companies as winners, rather than assuming there had to be a "loser" stock.

Stock Market Wrapup May 2nd

Positive economic reports combined with more good profit news from U.S. companies provided a solid lift to the stock market today, pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average to its fourth record close in the last five sessions. Advancing stocks swamped decliners by about 3 to 1 on the NYSE and 2 to 1 on the Nasdaq. Crude oil prices and the 10-year Treasury note both eased.
The Commerce Department reported that U.S. factory orders surged 3.1% in March, the biggest monthly increase in manufacturing activity in two years. The report echoed the positive signs exhibited by yesterday's report on manufacturing activity by the Institute of Supply Management, whose figures showed that after two-straight months of slowing growth, factories were picking up steam. The Treasury Department, meanwhile, said shrinking budget deficits will allow it to discontinue the 3-year note after next week's regular quarterly auction of government debt.
Time Warner (NYSE: TWX - News) topped today's earnings news. Though the media company reported Q1 earnings that declined -18% from the same period last year, the company said strong growth at its cable unit allowed it to raise its full-year guidance. Time Warner now expects to earn about $1.05 a share, instead of the $1 a share it previously forecasted. Excluding one-time items, the company earned 22 cents a share, which beat analyst forecasts by 2 cents.
MasterCard (NYSE: MA - News) said its growing international business and favorable currency exchange rates helped lead to a 70% increase in Q1 profit. The No. 2 credit card company said it earned nearly $215 million, or $1.57 a share, up from $126.7 million, or 94 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue climbed 24% to $915 million. The profit numbers handily surpassed Wall Street estimates, and the stock closed up 10.0%. Biogen Idec (Nasdaq: BIIB - News) said strong sales of its two-leading drugs were behind a 7% profit increase, but that result fell a bit short of Wall Street's expectations and the stock closed fractionally lower. Rituxan, a treatment for non-Hodgkins lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis that Biodec co-promotes in the U.S. with Genentech (Nasdaq: DNA - News), grew sales 13%. Avonex, an 11-year-old treatment for multiple sclerosis, grew sales 14%. Its new MS treatment, Tysabri, reported growing revenue despite carrying a "black box" warning label.
Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S - News) swung to a loss as a result of amortization charges. Without the charges, the company would have reported earnings of 18 cents a share, which was below analyst forecasts of 22 cents. The stock rose on an improved outlook for the current quarter. BullMarket.com subscribers can read a full report on Sprint Nextel in today's edition.
Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI - News) said its Q1 loss widened. The company lost -$46.4 million, or -26 cents a share, compared with a loss of -$1.9 million, or -3 cents a share, last year. The company blamed costs associated with the launch of its online movie rental business and flat in-store sales. The company has been spending heavily to support its Total Access service, which is meant to compete with Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX - News).
